SPECIAL JUVENILE POLICE UNIT (SJPU)
The police play an important role for protection of children. It is mandates police to adopt child friendly procedures while dealing with cases of children. If a sexual assault against the child is reported to the Special Juvenile Police Unit/local police it shall be registered immediately and take necessary action against the case. This may include admitting the child in to a hospital or shelter home within 24 hours of the report. If the child is living with the abuser, or is in an institution or is without a home and parental support, the police shall produce the child before the Child Welfare Committee within 24 hours. If the police has assessed that the child needs emergency medical care, they must make immediate arrangement to take the child to the nearest hospital, either private or government and report the same to the special court also.
